Man throws shoes at Sessions Court Judge in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: A dramatic scene unfolded at the city civil and sessions court on Tuesday when a man, enraged by a court verdict, hurled both his shoes at Additional Principal Judge M. P. Purohit.

The incident took place around noon at the Bhadra court complex after the man learned that four people accused in a 1997 assault case involving his father had been acquitted. The sessions court had upheld the earlier acquittal order, sparking his outburst.

Public prosecutor Sudhir Brahmbhatt said the man began shouting and abusing the judge. When police personnel and lawyers tried to restrain him, he grew more aggressive and threw his shoes, one after another, at the judge. Fortunately, the judge was unharmed.

Despite the attack, the judge declined to file a complaint, and when officers from Karanj police station detained the man, he even requested that no action be taken against him.

The incident came just days after a similar shoe-throwing episode targeting the Chief Justice of India in the Supreme Court. Following Tuesday’s attack, the Gujarat Judicial Service Association, led by its president S. G. Dodiya, demanded immediate security upgrades for judicial officers, court staff, and court premises.
