Gujarat Blocks 1.29 Lakh Stolen Phones, Returns 32,000 to Owners

Gandhinagar: The state police have leveraged the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) system to curb mobile theft more effectively than several other major states. Official data as of 10 am today shows that this year, police in Gujarat have blocked 1,29,453 stolen phones, traced 76,333, and returned 32,145 devices to their rightful owners.

This performance puts Gujarat ahead of larger states such as Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and West Bengal, with a recovery rate of 42.11%, significantly higher than the national average of 26.02%.

Gujarat’s Standing in National Rankings

  • In terms of blocked phones, Gujarat ranks 9th nationwide, while Delhi tops the list with 8.51 lakh blocked phones but has a poor recovery rate of just 1.98%.

  • For phones successfully returned, Gujarat holds 4th place among large states. Rajasthan (43.17%) and Mizoram (45.45%) slightly outperform Gujarat, while Punjab (11.97%) and Bihar (13.04%) lag far behind.

Officials say stronger coordination between police, service providers, and CEIR authorities could further improve recovery rates and build on the state’s strong performance. DeshGujarat
