PM Modi to inaugurate 1,449 Houses, 130 Shops under PM Awas Yojana in Ahmedabad

Gandhinagar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Gujarat on August 25 and 26. During this visit, he will inaugurate 1,449 houses and 130 shops built at a cost of ₹133.42 crore in Nikol, Ahmedabad. Implemented under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), this project will provide families living in the slum popularly known as Ramapir Tekra with modern, dream homes.
Statewide, under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), a total of 9.66 lakh houses have been approved against a target of 7.64 lakh. Of these, construction on 9.07 lakh houses has already been completed. Gujarat has received six awards in various categories in 2019 and seven awards in 2022 from the Central Government for effectively implementing the scheme, an official statement said.
As per the government statement, under PM Awas Yojana (Rural), from 2016-17 to 2024-25, the Government of India set a target of 8,43,168 houses, of which 6,00,932 have been completed. Additionally, under the spillover target of 2,78,533 houses for 2025-26, 39,092 houses were completed between April 1, 2025, and August 20, 2025, while 2,39,441 houses are under construction and are expected to be completed by March 2026. From FY 2016-17 to August 20, 2025, the scheme has incurred a total expenditure of ₹8,936.55 crore.
From FY 2025-26, under PM Awas Yojana (Rural), the state government provides additional assistance of ₹50,000 at the roof-cast level for beneficiaries under 100% state share to further support house construction. So far, 34,759 beneficiaries have received assistance worth ₹173.80 crore.
Furthermore, under the state government’s ‘Mukhyamantri Protsahan Sahay’ scheme, beneficiaries who complete their houses within six months of receiving the first installment receive an additional incentive of ₹20,000 per beneficiary. To date, 74,930 beneficiaries have received ₹149.86 crore. The government also provides an additional ₹5,000 per female family member for bathroom construction, the statement said.
As per the government, so far, 82,845 beneficiaries have received ₹41.42 crore under this scheme. Furthermore, beneficiaries are entitled to ₹25,920 for 90 days of employment under the MGNREGA scheme and ₹12,000 for toilet construction under the Swachh Bharat Mission. In total, a beneficiary can receive ₹2,32,920 in assistance under this scheme.
Additionally, under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, the Affordable Rental Housing Complex (ARHC) scheme was announced in 2020 to provide affordable rental housing for urban poor and workers. Within three months of the ARHC policy announcement, 393 houses in Surat’s SUDA area were converted into rental housing under Model-01, making Gujarat the first state to receive project approval.
Notably, Gujarat is also among six states nationwide selected by the central government for Lighthouse Project implementation under the Global Housing Technology Challenge (GHTC).
