AUDA to take over toll tax collection on SP Ring Road in 2027
July 19, 2025
Ahmedabad: From January 1, 2027, the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (Auda) will start collecting toll tax directly on the six-lane SP Ring Road. Toll rates will be revised, and according to new tender terms, contractors working on 6 laning of the road will get paid every six months.
This decision comes as the existing concessionaire’s toll collection rights expire on December 31, 2026. However, whether small passenger cars (LMVs) will continue to be exempt from toll will be decided later by the government.
On February 1 this year, Auda invited bids worth ₹2,200 crore to widen the 76 km SP Ring Road to six lanes. Now that bids have been opened, contracts will be awarded soon. Package 1 covers a 37 km stretch in eastern Ahmedabad, while Package 2 covers a 39.25 km stretch in the west.
The plan also includes widening a 34 km two-lane service road to four lanes and a 15 km three-lane service road to four lanes.
According to a news report, Auda received nine bids for one package and eleven for the other. Contractors will pay 60% of the cost, and Auda will cover the remaining 40%. New toll booths will be set up, and Auda will collect the new tolls for 15 years, using part of the revenue to pay contractors regularly.
Due to growing traffic, plans to expand the road to six lanes were made in 2017 and later approved. That year, Auda also decided to exempt LMV passenger four-wheelers from toll on this road. DeshGujarat
