Gujarat gets 46.89% of seasonal rainfall; 206 dams at 55% capacity, 34 on high alert

Surat: As of 6 am today, the state of Gujarat has completed 46.89% of its average monsoon rainfall, having received 413.52 mm of rain. According to data from the State Emergency Operation Centre, 15 talukas in the state have received over 1,000 mm of rainfall, while 42 talukas have received between 500 mm to 1,000 mm.
Region-wise, in terms of the percentage of average monsoon rainfall, Kutch has received the highest amount with 56% completion, followed by South Gujarat at 51.12%. Saurashtra, East-Central Gujarat, and North Gujarat have received 45.92%, 45.29%, and 41.62%, respectively.
Due to this decent rainfall, the dams and reservoirs in the state have also seen a steady inflow of water.
The lifeline of the state, the Sardar Sarovar Dam on the Narmada River, has reached 1,61,069 mcft, which is 48.21% of its capacity, with an inflow of over 26,000 cusecs at 8 am this morning.
In total, 206 dams in Gujarat are at 55.06% of their total water capacity. Among these, 24 dams are already filled up to 100%, 49 dams are filled between 70–100%, 44 dams between 50–70%, and 44 dams remain below 25% capacity.
Among major dams, Shetrunji and Brahmani have achieved 100% filling, while reservoirs like Dantiwada (15.39%), Sipu (5.29%), and Machchhu-II (33.16%) remain low as of now.
The Ukai Dam, one of the largest in Gujarat, is 53.81% full and has recorded the highest inflow of 24,540 cusecs. Other key reservoirs such as Dharoi (65.87%), Karjan (61.70%), and Panam (75.25%) are maintaining moderate to high water levels. Furthermore, the Damanganga Dam in South Gujarat has received a significant inflow of 23,370 cusecs, with an outflow of 19,393 cusecs.
As of today, 34 dams are on High Alert, 20 dams are on Alert, and 19 dams are on Warning. The dams on High Alert include Dhatarvadi in Amreli, Shetrunji in Palitana, Brahmani in Morbi, Dhari, and Nyari-2 in Rajkot.
Dholidhaja and Bhadar-2 are among the dams on Alert, while Aji-2, Aji-3, Panam, and Sukhi are on Warning.
Additionally, according to the latest status report, four rivers are currently overflowing: Kaveri and Purna in Navsari, and Ranjit Sagar and Vagadia in Jamnagar.
Notably, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has advised fishermen not to venture into rivers from July 8 to July 11, 2025, due to rough weather conditions.
