St. Xavier’s College in Ahmedabad yet to join GCAS as deadline nears
May 16, 2025
Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Common Admission Service (GCAS) is gaining traction, with over 1.77 lakh students registered and 1.09 lakh having confirmed their admissions by paying fees. Despite this progress, St Xavier’s College, one of the most reputed autonomous colleges under Gujarat University, continues to stay out of the centralized admission system.
On Tuesday, college representatives were called to Gandhinagar for a meeting with education department officials, who are urging all autonomous colleges to adopt GCAS. However, St Xavier’s did not commit. “We informed the authorities that the matter will be placed before our board and trustees. A decision will be communicated to the government afterward,” said Father Vinayak Jadav, principal of St Xavier’s College.
While other autonomous institutions like MG Science College and HL College of Commerce have already joined GCAS, St Xavier’s resistance has caused frustration among those who have complied. The education department has instructed universities to act against non-participating colleges, but Gujarat University has deferred the issue to the state government, citing the autonomous status granted to St Xavier’s.
With the GCAS registration deadline just two days away, uncertainty looms over the college’s participation—leaving thousands of students awaiting clarity. DeshGujarat
