Karamsad observes bandh to protest merger with Anand Municipal Corporation
January 07, 2025
Anand: Karamsad town observed a complete bandh on Monday after the Sardar Samman Sankalp Andolan Samiti called for a protest against its inclusion in the newly formed Anand Municipal Corporation. The samiti argued that the merger threatens Karamsad’s unique identity as the birthplace of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
For more than a decade, residents of Karamsad have been demanding special recognition for the town where Sardar Patel spent his formative years. In response to the bandh call, all shops, schools, colleges, commercial establishments, and even temples in the town remained closed.
The Gujarat government recently granted municipal corporation status to Anand and eight other municipalities, triggering widespread discontent among Karamsad residents. DeshGujarat
