FDCA seizes over 16,000 liters of suspicious ghee from a factory in Mehsana

Mehsana: The local police team on night patrol searched the premises of Shivan Food Products in Gilosan village following a tip-off about suspicious ghee production. After finding a large quantity of the suspicious ghee, the police informed the Mehsana Food and Drug Control Administration (FDCA), which inspected the factory, seized 16,812 liters of ghee valued at approximately Rs 95.6 lakh, and sealed the premises.

The factory, owned by Hiteshbhai Govindbhai Patel, was found storing around 75 cartons of Amrit Pure Ghee, Amrit Cow Ghee, and Gaudhara Cow Ghee, along with 700 cartons of other brands. FDCA officials collected 18 ghee samples and sent them to the government laboratory for testing.

Mehsana FDCA In-charge J.J. Prajapati said that if the samples are found to be substandard, legal action can be taken in the court of the Resident Additional Collector (RAC) with a fine of up to Rs 5 lakh. If the ghee is deemed unsafe, the case will proceed in judicial court, carrying a possible fine of up to Rs 3 lakh and imprisonment of up to three months.

Further investigation is underway, and authorities will take action based on the laboratory report. DeshGujarat
