Stone pelting at AAP event in Botad; FIR against 85 including party leaders, 65 nabbed

Botad: Tensions erupted in Haddad village of Botad following a farmer Mahapanchayat organized by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders over disputes regarding cotton prices and quality. The event, held without administrative permission, witnessed violent scenes, including stone pelting by the crowd that injured several police personnel, including the DYSP and PI, and caused vandalism to police vehicles. In the wake of the incident, Paliyad Police have registered cases against 85 individuals, including AAP leaders, for violence, stone pelting, and vandalism. So far, 65 people have been detained.
Botad SP Dharmender Sharma told the media that, according to a pre-planned conspiracy, stones were pelted at police, and a police car was overturned in an attempt to set it on fire. The police used necessary force to disperse the crowd. Today, an FIR has been registered at Paliyad Police Station against 85 individuals, of whom 65 were rounded up during the incident. Further investigation is ongoing. The main accused behind the event are Raju Karpada and Pravin Ram, along with others. Charges under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including attempt to murder and rioting, have been filed. Fifty vehicles used by the mob to reach the event have been seized. Two police vehicles were vandalized, and five personnel were injured, including two who sustained serious injuries.

Recently, a video related to disputes over cotton quality and prices at the Marketing Yard in Haddad went viral on social media. In response, AAP state leaders Raju Bhai Karpada, Parshotam Bhai Rathod, and other party officials arrived at the Marketing Yard on October 10, 2025, to address a meeting. Subsequently, on October 12, a “Mahapanchayat” (large village assembly) was held near the Gram Panchayat of Haddad village without proper administrative consent. According to police, provocative speeches were allegedly made during the meeting, disrupting law and order.
During the incident, the crowd pelted stones at police personnel and threw glass bottles filled with sand. DYSP Maharshi Raval, PI A.G. Solanki, ASI Bhagirath Singh Limbola, and Constable Rohitkumar Ladhva were injured in the violence. The mob also caused damage worth approximately ₹6 lakh to government property, violating a public notice issued by the Additional District Magistrate of Botad.
Following the incident, a case has been registered at Paliyad Police Station. While 65 people have been detained so far, police continue to search for the remaining accused. The complaint names 85 individuals, including AAP leaders such as Raju Karpada, Pravin Ram, Mahipalsinh Zhala, Laljibhai Vaghela, Bhupatbhai Jamod, Abhishek Solanki, Parshotambhai Rathod, Mahendrabhai Satiya, Kanajibhai Wala, Jitendrabhai alias Jito Gandhi, Bijalbhai Mer, Hansraj Jamod, Bhagu Bhai Boricha, Haresbhai Patgir, Sarlabhai Mori, Vipul Mevada, Dhanjibhai Gohil, Raju Kihla, Devkaranbhai Jograna, and Rakshaben Chavda.
