Patan: The Border Security Force (BSF) has apprehended a middle-aged Pakistani national who was attempting to infiltrate Indian territory near Santlalpur taluka in Patan district. The individual was later handed over to Santlalpur Police for further investigation.
According to initial reports, BSF personnel detained the man during a routine patrol approximately 50 km north of the Santlalpur Police Station. He has been identified as Mohammad Nawaz Abdul Majid, alias Maja, a resident of Village Basidhwani Chak No. 11 JB, Post Office Chiniot, District Chiniot, Pakistan.
Nawaz was apprehended near Pillar No. 981 along the Indo-Pakistan border. Following the arrest, BSF officials immediately informed senior authorities. Given the gravity of the incident, a joint investigation is underway involving the local police, the Intelligence Bureau (IB), and the BSF.
Authorities are probing the reasons behind his entry into Indian territory and whether he had accomplices. A joint interrogation involving district police, intelligence agencies, and armed forces officials is scheduled for Thursday. Preliminary observations indicate that Nawaz appeared calm and mentally stable, unlike several past cases in which border crossers exhibited signs of mental instability, raising questions about the motive behind his infiltration.
During the search, police recovered a key, a driving license, and Pakistani currency from the accused. All items have been seized for further investigation. DeshGujarat
