AMC sets up 24×7 Sports Activity Centre in Ranip; box cricket arena, pickleball court among facilities

Ahmedabad: To boost sports infrastructure as the city aims to host upcoming Commonwealth Games and Olympics, the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has developed a sports activity centre beneath the GST Railway Overbridge in New Ranip. Constructed at a cost of Rs 2.70 crore, the facility will operate 24/7 under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.

The newly inaugurated centre offers a range of facilities for all age groups. It includes a box cricket area accommodating 12 players per session (priced at Rs 700 per hour), a pickleball court, and indoor games such as table tennis and carrom. A dedicated children’s play zone features a multi-play station, crawling tunnel, and Mary Gold platform, while a yoga area and food stalls add to the amenities.

The centre is enhanced with a landscaped garden, parking space, and a seating area for senior citizens. Beyond recreational use, coaching sessions for various sports will also be offered. At a fee of up to Rs 1,000 per month, people can avail coaching for table tennis, chess, pickleball, and basketball.

AMC plans to set up similar centres beneath eight other overbridges across the city. The identified locations include Dinesh Chamber Flyover Bridge, Rajendra Park Flyover Bridge, Dhodasar Flyover Bridge, Anjali Flyover Bridge, Ladlapir (Shahibaug) Railway Overbridge, Guruji Railway Overbridge, and Gujarat College Railway Overbridge. Additional planning is underway near Palladium Mall and Kargil Junction on SG Highway, pending NHAI permission. DeshGujarat
