AMC conducts surprise checks at 230 hospitals for power load, fire safety compliance

Ahmedabad: A surprise inspection of all types of hospital buildings within the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) limits was carried out by a team from the AMC’s Fire and Emergency Services Department, the city civic body announced today.

During the checks, officials verified whether the power connections provided by electricity supply companies matched the approved capacity sanctioned for each hospital. The inspection covered around 230 hospitals, where electricity bills under various tariff categories — such as LTMD (Low Tension Metered Domestic) — were examined to detect any instances of overloading.

Based on the inspection, officials confirmed that no hospital was found using electricity beyond the approved limit.

Following the findings, the AMC issued an advisory to all hospital owners, managers, operators, tenants, and users within its jurisdiction to ensure that electricity consumption remains within the sanctioned capacity. They have also been urged to regularly maintain all electrical equipment and have them inspected by qualified technicians to prevent fire-related incidents.

Additionally, hospitals have been reminded to keep their fire safety systems functional at all times, obtain a valid Fire Safety Certificate Approval (FSCA), and ensure its timely renewal as per regulations. The AMC further emphasized that maintaining an active Fire NOC is the responsibility of hospital management and must be strictly adhered to, the civic body stated. DeshGujarat
