Gujarat Govt Declares Additional Diwali Holidays for State Employees to be Swapped with 2nd Saturdays
October 07, 2025
Gandhinagar: The Government of Gujarat has announced additional holidays for state government offices and employees during the Diwali festival in 2025, allowing officials to spend extended time with their families.
According to the notification issued by the General Administration Department, the official Diwali public holiday falls on Monday, October 20, 2025, followed by New Year’s Day on Wednesday, October 22, and Bhai Bij on Thursday, October 23. These holidays will be followed by the fourth Saturday (October 25) and Sunday (October 26).
However, Tuesday, October 21, and Friday, October 24, fall between these holidays and regular working days. To facilitate a continuous festive break, the state government has declared that all government offices—including Panchayat offices and State Government Boards and Corporations—will remain closed on both October 21 and October 24.
In lieu of these additional holidays, all such offices will remain open on Saturday, November 8, 2025 (the second Saturday) and Saturday, December 13, 2025 (the second Saturday).
The circular clarifies that these holidays are granted specifically for administrative convenience during the Diwali period and are not declared under the provisions of the Vacancy Act, 1881.
The order applies uniformly to all government departments, panchayat institutions, and boards or corporations under the State Government. DeshGujarat
