AMC Dismisses Medical Officer

Ahmedabad, October 3, 2025 – The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has dismissed Dr. Brijesh Sureshbhai Katara, a Medical Officer working under the State Government’s Gujarat Urban Health Project (GUHP) at the Chandkheda Community Health Center, following a departmental inquiry into charges of misconduct.
According to AMC, Dr. Katara was on night duty at the Chandkheda Community Health Center on May 25, 2023, from 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. When he reported for duty around 8:30 p.m., he was allegedly found in a state of intoxication. During the same night, he was accused of misbehaving with relatives of patients admitted at the center and of conduct deemed as serious indiscipline and misconduct, which also harmed the reputation of the civic health body.
He was placed under suspension with immediate effect, and a departmental inquiry was initiated. The investigation confirmed the charges of misconduct.
Based on the inquiry findings, the Municipal Commissioner issued an order on October 3, 2025, dismissing Dr. Katara from municipal service. His suspension period has been treated as such in the final order.
