Air India to Shift Select Domestic Flights to Delhi Airport’s Terminal 2 from October 26

New Delhi, October 3, 2025 – Air India Group has announced changes to its domestic flight operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, effective October 26, 2025, in response to expansion works underway at Terminal 3 (T3). The move aims to free up capacity for international passengers as Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) upgrades the terminal.

As part of the restructuring, Air India will shift 60 of its 180 daily domestic departures to the upgraded Terminal 2 (T2). Meanwhile, Air India Express will relocate all its domestic flights to the newly renovated Terminal 1 (T1). International operations of both carriers will continue to be handled at T3.

Easy identification of T2 flights

To help passengers identify flights operating from T2, Air India has renumbered them into a four-digit AI1XXX series (e.g., AI1737, AI1787). This system will ensure clarity for travellers booking or checking in online.

Inter-terminal transfers and support

Passengers connecting between Air India and Air India Express flights – or codeshare flights – will be provided inter-terminal transfers between T1, T2, and T3. Checked-in baggage will be transferred seamlessly airside, eliminating the need for passengers to recheck bags during terminal changes.

Additionally, DIAL will operate a free shuttle service every 10 minutes to connect the three terminals. Passengers with reduced mobility will also have the option of buggy rides between T2 and T3.

Passenger communication and assistance

Air India and Air India Express said they will directly notify all affected passengers through registered contact details. For new bookings, travellers will be informed at the time of purchase if their flights are operating from T2 or T1.

To smoothen the transition, extra ground staff will be deployed at T1 and T2, with some wearing specially marked T-shirts for easy identification. These staff members will guide passengers with terminal transfers, flight details, and assistance during check-in.
