Gujarat to Destroy ₹381 Crore Worth of Drugs in Bharuch, Launch Anti-Narcotics Task Force

Bharuch: Minister of State for Home, Harsh Sanghvi, will oversee the destruction of narcotics worth over ₹381 crore in Bharuch on Friday, October 3, 2025. The event, symbolically likened to the burning of Ravana’s effigy during Vijaya Dashami, underscores the Gujarat government’s commitment to eradicating the menace of drugs that threatens society.

Over 8,000 kilograms of narcotics, seized by the Gujarat Police in 442 cases, will be incinerated in a major drug eradication program. This initiative aligns with Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah’s call for a ‘Drugs-Free India’ and the policy of ‘Zero Tolerance’ towards narcotics.

Launch of Anti-Narcotics Task Force and Key Initiatives

During the event, Shri Harsh Sanghvi will announce critical measures to dismantle drug networks across the state. The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), headquartered in Gandhinagar with six zonal offices, will be formally launched. Comprising 213 specially trained officers and personnel, the ANTF will focus exclusively on combating narcotics-related crimes.

Additionally, the state government will intensify its ‘Mentor Project,’ a proactive policing initiative monitoring 2,640 narcotics accused released on bail, overseen by 1,978 police mentors. To enhance public participation, the central government’s ‘Manas’ helpline (1933) will be strengthened in Gujarat, with a new system ensuring that information received is directly relayed to the Minister’s office for swift action.

Felicitation of Police Personnel

As part of the program, 92 police personnel who demonstrated exceptional performance in tackling seven major drug-related cases will be honored. Under the state’s ‘Reward Policy,’ they will receive a collective reward of ₹29.67 lakh for their exemplary service.

A Stern Warning to Drug Dealers

Drawing parallels with the symbolic destruction of evil during Ravan Dahan, the Gujarat government aims to send a resolute message to drug traffickers through this initiative. The event reaffirms the state’s unwavering commitment to building a ‘Drug-Free Gujarat’ and protecting society from the scourge of narcotics. This large-scale drug destruction and the launch of targeted anti-narcotics measures mark a pivotal moment in Gujarat’s fight against the drug trade, reinforcing its zero-tolerance stance.
