September 26, 2025
Surat: The Gujarat Cyber Crime Unit has arrested 10 individuals in Surat, busting a massive cyber fraud racket linked to more than 1,532 cases and siphoned funds worth ₹892 crore, officials said on Thursday.
A senior police official told the media that this could be “the biggest fraud detection in the state’s history.”
According to the State Cyber Cell, investigators had been probing several cyber fraud complaints registered in Surat and other districts. While analysing these cases, officials noticed a common modus operandi and later interacted with victims to gather further details.
A few weeks ago, four youths from Surat were nabbed in connection with the scam. Their interrogation provided crucial leads, resulting in the arrest of six more suspects from the city. Investigations revealed that the fraud network had been active for years, with 1,549 complaints registered on the 1930 portal and 22 FIRs filed across the country.
The mastermind is believed to be operating from abroad. Police sources said he had recruited multiple associates in India and shared a percentage of the siphoned money with them.
In Gujarat alone, 141 complaints were lodged on the 1930 portal, with three FIRs filed — two in Ahmedabad and one in Morbi — amounting to losses of approximately ₹17.75 crore.
During the probe, authorities seized a large amount of incriminating material, including:
-
529 account kits
-
447 ATMs
-
686 SIM cards
-
16 PoS machines
-
60 mobile phones
-
2 laptops
-
11 sound boxes
-
17 QR codes
-
1 router
Officials added that more arrests are likely as several names have surfaced during the investigation. However, the identities of those arrested are being withheld while the probe continues. DeshGujarat
