Rs 5000 Bribe to Allow Liquor from Maharashtra; ACB Gujarat Nabs Two Home Guards

Valsad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Valsad successfully carried out a trap operation on Wednesday, leading to the arrest of two home guards for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹4,500.

According to officials, the accused have been identified as Anilbhai Babubhai Dhodi (38) and Sujit Indrabali Singh (36), both serving as home guards at Umargam Police Station in Valsad district.

The case came to light when an alert citizen lodged a complaint with the ACB. The complainant revealed that the accused had demanded a monthly bribe of ₹5,000 to allow him to transport liquor from Maharashtra into Gujarat through the Umargam check post. Gujarat is a prohibition state, and strict laws are in place against the possession and transportation of liquor.

Acting on the complaint, ACB officials set up a trap near Sanjan Char Rasta, close to the Sanjan Primary Health Centre in Umargam. During the operation, the complainant met the accused and requested a reduction in the demanded bribe. Accused Anilbhai Dhodi agreed to accept ₹500 less and collected ₹4,500. At this point, both Dhodi and Singh were caught red-handed, and the bribe money was recovered on the spot.

The operation was executed under the leadership of Police Inspector J.R. Gamit of Valsad and Dang ACB, with overall supervision by Assistant Director R.R. Chaudhary of the ACB Surat Unit.

ACB officials confirmed that further investigation is underway to determine if the accused were involved in similar illegal practices in the past. DeshGujarat
