IMD issues yellow alerts for heavy rain, thunderstorms in these parts of Gujarat during Sept 27–30

The people of Gujarat are enjoying Garba every night, but the unceasing rain across the state has raised concerns. To ensure caution for festival-goers, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain and thunderstorms in some parts of Gujarat from September 27 to 30, 2025.

As per the IMD bulletin for the next 24 hours, light rain is likely in Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, as well as Rajkot, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, Botad, and Diu. The remaining districts in the state are expected to witness dry weather.

On September 27, heavy rain is very likely at isolated places in Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, and Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, prompting a yellow alert. Additionally, light thunderstorms with lightning and surface winds of 30–40 kmph, accompanied by light to moderate rain, are expected at isolated locations in Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli. A yellow warning for thunderstorms has been issued for these areas.

On September 28, the yellow alert for heavy rain covers Gir Somnath, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Anand, Vadodara, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, Daman, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli. Meanwhile, a yellow warning for thunderstorms with lightning and winds of 30–40 kmph has been issued for all districts of Gujarat, except Dwarka, Jamnagar, Morbi, and Kutch.

On September 29, the heavy rain yellow alert is in place for Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, and Diu. All 33 districts may experience light thunderstorms with lightning and winds of 30–40 kmph, accompanied by light to moderate rain, and a yellow warning has been issued accordingly.

On September 30, heavy rain is expected mainly in Navsari and Valsad in South Gujarat, and in Porbandar, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, and Gir Somnath in the Saurashtra region, while light rain is predicted across the entire state, continuing into October 1.

This warning comes as an upper-air cyclonic circulation persists over Kutch and surrounding areas at 3.1 km above mean sea level.

Addionaly, another upper-air cyclonic circulation over the east-central and adjoining northeast Bay of Bengal, extending up to middle tropospheric levels as of 0830 IST on September 25. The system is expected to gradually move westwards.

Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the north and adjoining central Bay of Bengal within the next 12 hours. It is expected to intensify into a depression over the northwest and west-central Bay of Bengal, off the South Odisha–North Andhra Pradesh coasts, on September 26 and cross these coasts on the morning of September 27.

Meanwhile, the line of withdrawal of the southwest monsoon continues to pass through 37.5°N/73°E, Rampur, Bushahr, Haridwar, Moradabad, Etawah, Banswara, Vallabh Vidyanagar, Veraval, and 20.5°N/69°E.

Conditions remain favourable for further withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from the remaining parts of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir, as well as parts of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand over the next two days.
