Vadodara: Chaos erupted at the pass collection centre of the United Way Navratri Garba event on Sunday after hundreds of participants, who had booked their passes online weeks ago, failed to receive them on time. An angry crowd broke the glass door of the centre, leaving at least three people injured.
According to eyewitnesses, pass buyers rushed to the collection point after organizers announced that physical passes would be distributed from Sunday morning. Many claimed that though they had paid online nearly a month ago, the promised courier delivery of passes never reached them. With Navratri beginning tomorrow, large numbers turned up hoping to collect their passes in person.
Confusion mounted when staff reportedly informed visitors that those with QR codes did not need physical passes. However, a majority said they had not received even QR codes, sparking frustration. The organizers eventually left the centre, forcing police to step in and control the agitated crowd.
Amid the chaos, the glass door of the centre was smashed, injuring at least three people in the rush.

People gathered outside accused United Way of “poor management and negligence,” criticizing the organization for failing to ensure timely delivery of passes despite charging hefty entry fees. Some locals also suggested that veteran Garba singer Atul Purohit should reconsider his association with United Way, citing its foreign origins and past allegations against the body.
