September 16, 2025
Gamdhimaha: “GST reforms are the largest economic reform in the country,” said the National Spokesperson of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, Dr. Guruprakash Paswan, while addressing a press conference held today at the State BJP headquarters, Shri Kamalm.
The press conference was held to discuss the latest changes in GST slabs, which will come into effect from 22nd September 2025. Addressing the press, Dr. Paswan stated that the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has fulfilled all promises made to the people of India. Under PM Modi’s guidance, key reforms in GST have been introduced, marking a historic decision by the central government.
He further emphasized that, despite opposition parties repeatedly questioning India’s economic state, global agencies like the IMF and the World Bank recognize India as a hotspot of hope and energy. Under PM Modi’s leadership, India is rapidly becoming the third-largest economy in the world, a fact now acknowledged globally.
Dr. Paswan provided a detailed overview of GST, explaining that previously there were around 35 different taxes, which were unified under the “One Nation, One Tax” system implemented nationwide in 2017 by the BJP government. GST was introduced to strengthen MSMEs and simplify the tax system.
He outlined five key objectives of GST reforms:
-
Simplify the tax system.
-
Improve the quality of life for Indian citizens, fulfilling the vision of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay’s Antyodaya.
-
Boost consumption and economic growth.
-
Enhance ease of doing business and create employment opportunities.
-
Strengthen cooperation between states and the central government.
Dr. Paswan also stated that the GST reforms realize the vision of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay. Taxes on health and life insurance for middle-class families have been removed. “During Congress rule, cement attracted 29% tax, while ACs, fans, and TVs were taxed at 30–31%, placing a heavy burden on citizens,” the BJP leader added.
The reforms have already led to a reduction in inflation while maintaining a growth rate of 7.8%. Dr. Paswan criticized opposition leaders for creating confusion regarding GST, stating that the foundation of “One Nation, One Tax” is a cornerstone for building a developed India. DeshGujarat
