Vadodara: A 34-year-old woman working in the city’s catering service lodged a complaint after alleging that a man who used a false Hindu identity repeatedly raped her and threatened her life, and that she became pregnant three times during the period, police said on Monday. Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation.
According to the complaint, the woman met the accused through a mutual contact while working on a catering assignment in Waghodia in February 2023. The man initially identified himself as Pratik Patel, the woman said. They began a relationship, and within about 15 days he went to her home and persuaded her he would marry her.
The woman alleged that the man then took her on multiple trips to Ajmer, where they stayed in various hotels and lodges and that he repeatedly raped her during those visits. On one bus journey from Ajmer to Vadodara, the complainant said she photographed his identity card mentioning Muslim name. When she later asked him for his full name, he admitted he was actually not Pratik Patel but Iqbal Rasulbhai Parmar of Kherda village, Karjan, the complaint stated.
The complainant told police that during the period between June 2023 and April 2024 she received treatment at a Raopura hospital and that the man even registered her there as his wife. She reported becoming pregnant on three separate occasions while the relationship continued.
When the woman tried to end the relationship, the accused allegedly threatened her and her child. She told police he had threatened to kill her son and had coerced her into cutting her hair out of fear. After she ceased communication, she said the man repeatedly contacted her from unknown numbers; five days before she filed the complaint, he reportedly called and threatened her when she refused to resume the relationship.
Following the complaint, local police registered an FIR under relevant sections dealing with sexual assault, cheating by false representation and criminal intimidation, and said further legal action was underway. Investigating officers said they were examining the documents and records cited by the complainant, including hospital records and the identity evidence she had gathered.
