BJP Secures Historic Majority in Amul Dairy Board Elections
September 13, 2025
Vallabhvidyanagar: For the first time in the 78-year history of Amul Dairy, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured a clear majority in the cooperative’s board elections, winning 11 out of 13 seats. The outcome marks a significant shift in the control of one of India’s most influential dairy institutions.
Among the victorious candidates are former MLA Kantisodha Parmar from Anand block, Rajendrasinh Parmar from Khambhat, Binaben Patel in Petlad, current chairman Vipul Patel in Nadiad block, Ghelabhai Jhala in Kathlal, Bhagwatsinh Parmar in Matar, and Vijay Patel from the Individual Member Division. Most of these victories came with wide margins.
On the other hand, former Congress MLA Rajendrasinh Parmar managed to retain the Borsad seat, while Bhura Solanki won in the Kapadvanj block. A notable upset occurred in Matar, where long-time Amul Bachao movement leader and former MLA Kesarisinh suffered a heavy defeat against newcomer Bhagwatsinh Parmar. Kesarisinh’s candidature had also been contested by current director Sanjay Patel.
Out of the total 13 seats, BJP had already secured four unopposed, and went on to win seven more in the elections for the remaining nine seats. With this, the Rs 15,000-crore Amul Dairy administration has effectively come under BJP’s control.
For years, the party has been steadily working to gain influence in the cooperative sector, and this landmark victory underscores its growing dominance in Gujarat’s rural and economic landscape. DeshGujarat
