Surat: As many as 60 trains will stop at Surat railway station from 10 October instead of Udhna where they were temporarily shifted earlier due to the ongoing construction works of Surat Multi Model Transport Hub (MMTH), which is a redevelopment project of Surat railway station. The trains include long distance Tapti line and Southern India bound routes. With two railway stations – Surat and Udhna functional, the crowd management will be smoother during upcoming Diwali and Chhathpuja festival. Every year during Chhath Puja and Diwali festival, the crowds in railway stations in Surat become national news. The Railways start preparations for crowd control and special trains weeks ahead of the festival season. Surat has a large population of migrant laborers from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha and other Eastern States. The laborers rush to the railway stations ahead of the festive season to go to their native places to celebrate the festivals with family.
