India’s Fastest Train is Made in Gujarat
September 12, 2025
New Delhi/Vadodara: The Namo Bharat train has set a new national benchmark by clocking a speed of 160 km/h on the Delhi–Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor, officially making it the fastest train in the country.
Manufactured at the Savli based Alstom factory in Vadodara, Gujarat, the train showcases state-of-the-art engineering with aerodynamic rolling stock, modern design, and advanced automatic protection, control, and operational systems. The current operational stretch covers 55 km, while the full route will eventually extend to 82.15 km.
Faster Than Vande Bharat and Gatimaan Express
Until now, semi-high-speed services such as the Vande Bharat Express and Gatimaan Express held the record for speed, both running at 160 km/h on selected routes. However, following a directive issued in June 2024, their speed was capped at 130 km/h for safety and operational reasons.
With Namo Bharat achieving 160 km/h on the RRTS, India has regained momentum in the high-speed rail sector, strengthening domestic rail production and positioning Gujarat as a global hub for advanced train manufacturing. DeshGujarat
