Ahmedabad resident moves HC seeking stay on release of Akshay Kumar-starrer Jolly LLB 3

Ahmedabad: An Ahmedabad resident has approached the Gujarat High Court seeking a stay on the release of Akshay Kumar-starrer Jolly LLB 3, alleging that dialogues in the teaser portray the judiciary in a poor light.
Petitioner Yatin Desai, a resident of Nikol, urged the court to direct the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to block the teaser on all digital platforms under the IT Act. He also sought a stay on the film’s scheduled release on September 19 and requested the formation of a committee comprising judges, retired judges, lawyers, and experts to review the movie and remove portions that undermine the dignity of the judiciary.
The petition further sought cancellation of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) certificate issued for the teaser and the film.
Citing a precedent, Desai referred to a 2017 order by the Aurangabad bench of the Bombay High Court, which formed a committee to examine Jolly LLB 2 following similar complaints. That review led to the removal of four scenes considered objectionable.
“The petitioner does not seek a complete ban on the film,” the plea stated. “Courts are not comedy stages. Judges cannot be portrayed as buffoons. Depicting them as using vulgar words trivialises justice delivery. Such unchecked portrayals risk normalising disrespect for courts, especially among youth,” the petition reads.
Apart from government authorities, actors Akshay Kumar, Arshad Warsi, Saurabh Shukla, and director Subhash Kapoor have been named as respondents. The matter is expected to be heard by a single-judge bench on Thursday.
