Income Tax Dept searches premises of chemical manufacturer in Gujarat & Chennai

Chennai: The Income Tax Department carried out searches at offices and premises linked to Tamil Nadu-based Archean Chemical Industries Limited on Thursday. More than 25 locations, including sites in Chennai, its suburbs, and Gujarat, were raided simultaneously. Security arrangements with armed police personnel were also deployed during the operation.
According to sources, the searches covered several key locations in Chennai, including the company’s headquarters on North Crescent Road, Umapathi Marg West, Appasamy Apartments in Vadapalani, Meridian Builders in Alwarpet, Pattinapakkam, and TVH Felicia Towers. Simultaneous raids were also conducted at the company’s branches and manufacturing units in Gujarat.
A confidential complaint received by the Intelligence Wing of the Income Tax Department alleges that the company, which does business worth ₹4,000 crore annually, carried out tax evasion.
Archean Chemical Industries manufactures several key industrial chemicals, including bromine and sodium phosphate. Income Tax Department officials are conducting a detailed probe into the company’s financial records, account books, contracts, and other critical documents.
