Gujarat police launch special drive against vehicles with tinted glass & no number plates
September 03, 2025
Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Police today launched a statewide special drive to take strict legal action against vehicles without number plates and vehicles with tinted or blackened glass. The drive will continue until 17 September 2025.
According to an order issued by the Inspector General of Police, STB, despite earlier advisories, a significant number of private vehicles with blackened glass continue to operate on public roads beyond the limits prescribed by RTO offices across the state. Under the Motor Vehicles Act, it is mandatory for both newly purchased and older vehicles to display proper registration number plates before being driven on the road.
Authorities noted that some drivers operate vehicles straight from showrooms without registration numbers, while others remove number plates before use. Such vehicles not only violate traffic rules but have also been reportedly used in criminal activities.
To curb these violations, the special drive will be conducted across cities and districts from 3 September to 17 September 2025. During this period, police personnel will compile daily activity reports and submit them to the IG office by 8 am the following morning. DeshGujarat
