Rajkot-Jetpur highway six-lane project: Construction agency fined ₹5 lakh for traffic mismanagement

Rajkot: The Rajkot-Jetpur six-lane highway project is set to be completed by September 2026, following instructions from Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel to various departments to speed up the work.

As per the officals, 4 out of 30 bridges on the highway are open, while work on 11 out of the remaining 26 bridges is expected to be completed by December 2025. The remaining 15 bridges will be finished by June 2026, after which the highway will be fully operational, easing traffic for nearly 25,000 vehicles passing through daily.

The state government held a meeting on August 29 in Gandhinagar with departments including Gujarat Gas, Gujarat Water Infrastructure Limited (GWIL) , RMC, GETCO, and the Revenue Department to discuss the progress of the Rajkot-Jetpur highway. Following the meeting, the Chief Minister instructed that the project be completed at the earliest. The National Highway Authority is actively overseeing the work to ensure timely completion.

In a separate development, Varah Agency, responsible for the highway construction, has been fined ₹5 lakh for traffic mismanagement. Earlier, also the agency had been penalized ₹25 lakh.
