Ahmedabad: The world’s largest cricket stadium, Narendra Modi Stadium at Motera in Ahmedabad, is likely to be opened to tourists in the near future. With this, the city of Ahmedabad will get a new place of attraction for tourists.
There are indications that, the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) plans to introduce guided tours of the stadium for visitors by charging a fee. Similar ticketed tours are already available at renowned cricket stadiums in Australia and other countries.
Rohit Patel, a social worker from the Science City area of Ahmedabad, wrote in a Facebook post that he met International Cricket Council (ICC) Chairman Jay Shah at latter’s father Amit Shah’s Thaltej based bungalow on August 30th and suggested that tourists visiting Ahmedabad should be allowed entry to the stadium. Patel further mentioned that Shah revealed to him that visitors will soon be permitted to tour the stadium on payment of a fee.
Patel also stated in his post that he met Union Home Minister and local MP Amit Shah also, where he raised issues regarding poor road conditions and potholes in the Science City area and the use of the Gujarati language in the Gujarat High Court. According to Patel, Amit Shah informed him that the process for introducing Gujarati in the High Court would take around two years. Patel had filed appeal in the Gujarat High Court and Supreme Court demanding same. DeshGujarat
