Severe waterlogging hits Himmatnagar after rainfall; video of submerged cars goes viral

Sabarkantha: Heavy rainfall in Himmatnagar led to severe waterlogging in several housing societies, with floodwaters entering homes and submerging vehicles in upscale neighborhoods.

A video of several cars submerged under water has gone viral on social media, showing only the rooftops of vehicles as the area experienced extreme flooding. These cars were parked in a common plot of Avni Park and Pragya Kunj Society. Meanwhile, residents of Shastrinagar and Shagun Bungalows also suffered water damage and significant distress. Shops near Chapariya Char Rasta were inundated, and rising water levels in low-lying areas disrupted daily activities, resulting in heavy property and vehicle losses.

Footage showed locals struggling through knee-deep floodwaters on the streets, and a local railway underpass was reported to be fully submerged. Several housing societies, such as Chapariya Housing Scheme, Shagun Society, Parishram Society, and Shastri Nagar Societies, faced serious waterlogging, prompting frustration among residents over the slow civic response.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has placed Sabarkantha district under a yellow alert until September 2, forecasting heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning in isolated areas over the coming days. The IMD’s extended forecast anticipates continued rainfall across Gujarat, with scattered showers expected in the north and south, and widespread rain predicted in Saurashtra and Kutch until the morning of September 5.
