2.45 lakh cusecs+ discharge from Sardar Sarovar Narmada Dam; updates on dams in Gujarat at 3 pm

Narmada: The water level of the Sardar Sarovar Narmada Dam has been rising continuously over the past few days due to heavy inflows from upstream. To manage the situation, 15 gates of the dam have been opened up to 1.85 metres as of 3 pm today, releasing 2.45 lakh cusecs of water into the Narmada river. In the past 24 hours ending 3 pm, the water level has risen by 13 cm.

The maximum water level capacity of the Narmada Dam is 138.68 metres, while the current level has reached 136.74 metres, which is 93.16% of its capacity. As of 3 pm, the inflow into the dam stands at 2,06,515 cusecs, while 2,45,042 cusecs are being released into the river. In addition, 23,501 cusecs of water are being released through the main canal to fill several reservoirs across Gujarat. Officials said the dam now holds 8,850.40 MCM of water storage. With steady upstream inflows triggered by heavy rainfall, the dam is expected to ensure adequate water supply across the state.

Among other major dams, Ukai—the second-largest dam in Gujarat and the largest in South Gujarat—is also witnessing heavy inflows. Its present reservoir level is 102.40 metres, already above the rule level of 102.11 metres (the level to be maintained before September 1). With an inflow of over 1.1 lakh cusecs, authorities have opened six gates up to 1.83 metres, discharging over 94,000 cusecs of water downstream into the Tapi river. The Kadana Dam, the third-largest in capacity, is currently at 91.86% of storage and releasing more than 53,000 cusecs downstream. Dharoi Dam is also 83% full and currently receiving 11,000 cusecs of water in its catchment area. DeshGujarat
