August 28, 2025
Gandhinagar: The Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Limited (TCGL) and Worldwide Media Pvt. Ltd. (a Times Group company) have signed an MoU for hosting the 70th Filmfare Awards in Gujarat. The agreement was formalised at a ceremony in Gandhinagar in the presence of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. The MoU was signed by Prabhav Joshi, Managing Director of TCGL and Tourism Commissioner, and Rohit Gopakumar from Worldwide Media.
Gujarat has attracted major film projects since the launch of its Cinematic Tourism Policy in 2022. Hosting the Filmfare Awards 2025 marks another milestone for the state’s growing presence in India’s entertainment industry. On this occasion, the Chief Minister also unveiled the Filmfare trophy, popularly known as the ‘Black Lady’.
This will be the second consecutive year that Gujarat is hosting the Filmfare Awards. The MoU signing was attended by Tourism Minister Mulu Bera, Minister of State Bhikhu Singh Parmar, Additional Chief Secretary M.K. Das, Tourism Secretary Rajendra Kumar, Times Group MD Vineet Jain, filmmaker Karan Johar, actor Vikrant Massey, and other dignitaries.
Chief Minister Patel said that hosting the Filmfare Awards will boost the local economy, generate employment, and promote the ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative through wider use of local products and services.
He further said that Gujarat is emerging as a major hub for concerts and mega-events, with the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad—having a seating capacity of one lakh—demonstrating the state’s capability to host world-class events.
The awards will also serve as a platform to showcase Gujarat’s tourism attractions to national and international audiences, ranging from the White Rann of Kutch and Gir National Park to Somnath, Dwarka, the Sabarmati Ashram, Shivrajpur Beach, and the Statue of Unity.
Times Group MD Vineet Jain said that the return of the Filmfare Awards to Gujarat reflects the state’s growing synergy between culture and entertainment. Director Karan Johar expressed gratitude for being able to host the Filmfare Awards in Gujarat for a second time, calling it an honour. Actor Vikrant Massey, who received his first Filmfare Award in Gujarat last year, said it was a matter of pride that the state is once again playing host.
Tourism MD Prabhav Joshi thanked all stakeholders and said that Gujarat’s film policies and incentives are transforming the state into a hub for the entertainment industry. DeshGujarat
