5-year-old boy dies after getting trapped in lift at Navsari apartment

Navsari: In a tragic incident, a 5-year-old boy, Sarthak, was trapped in a lift at Nirav Square Apartments in the Vijalpur area of Navsari this morning around 9 AM. The Navsari Fire Brigade rushed to the scene and used a cutter to open the lift doors, but unfortunately, the child could not be saved.

The incident occurred when Sarthak’s mother was trying to lock the flat door. The Nirav Square lift, an old iron-grilled model with a wooden door, appears to have caused the accident when the child pushed the wooden door to enter. The lift started moving upward before the inner iron grille closed completely, trapping the child’s body. Witnesses suggest that the lift sensor may not have worked properly, or someone may have pressed a button on another floor, causing the lift to move unexpectedly.

The fire brigade team had to cut open the lift with a cutter to rescue him. He was immediately taken to Civil Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The child’s father is an official at Surat Municipal Corporation.

Despite modern equipment available with the Navsari Fire Department, the team had to rely on a local worker’s cutter to open the lift, as standard tools failed to work on the iron door. The rescue operation took about one and a half hours. Residents raised concerns that even advanced tools are of little use if they cannot save lives in time. DeshGujarat
