Release of Sabarmati Water from Vasna Barrage; Downstream areas alerted

Ahmdabad: Due to release of water from Dharoi dam in North Gujarat, 25 gates of Vasna barrage are opened in Ahmedabad. Downstream areas of Vatva, Vejalpur, Daskroi, Dholka are alerted to be vigilant.
The State government informed that – ‘Gate numbers 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28 and 29 (total 25 gates) of Vasna Barrage are opened and 51,126 cusecs of water is currently being released into the Sabarmati River.’
The government communication further stated that – ‘due to rains in the upper reaches, there is a possibility of more water being released.’ The statement added that people living in Vatva, Vejalpur, Daskroi and Dholka areas are appealed to be vigilant.
It’s worth noting that due to very heavy rains in the catchment of Dharoi dam, including the areas of neighboring state Rajasthan, over 64,000 cusecs water was released from Dharoi dam as of 1 am today, against the inflow of 27,210 cusecs. Dharoi dam has presently over 86 percent storage. The water is being released to maintain the rule level at Dharoi which is 188.67 m before 1st September. Full reservoir level of Dharoi is 189.59 m. Dharoi is fourth largest dam in Gujarat after Sardar Sarovar Narmada, Ukai and Kadana dams. Dharoi’s designee gross storage capacity is 813.13 MCM.
Other notable outflows in Gujarat today (as of 1 am) were Wanakobori – over 46,000 cusecs, Kadana – over 59,000 cusecs, Karjan – 32,000 cusecs, Sardar Sarovar – 45900 cusecs and Ukai – over 22,000 cusecs. DeshGujarat
