TDSG to launch electrode-level localisation at Hansalpur plant

Ahmedabad: TDS Lithium-Ion Battery Gujarat Pvt Ltd (TDSG), India’s first lithium-ion battery plant with cell-level localisation, is set to advance to electrode-level localisation at its Hansalpur facility next week, as per a report. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Hansalpur to unveil this new technology along with other announcements by Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL). The plant is a joint venture of Toshiba, Denso, and Suzuki Motor Corporation, located within the Maruti Suzuki Supplier Park.

The transition from cell-level to electrode-level localisation will mark a major step in India’s EV battery ecosystem, raising localisation to nearly 80%. Unlike assembling batteries with imported core materials, electrode-level localisation involves producing the critical cell components — the positive and negative plates that store and release energy.

The Hansalpur facility plays a central role in Suzuki’s electric mobility strategy and in strengthening India’s domestic EV supply chain. Notably, so far Suzuki has invested over ₹12,000 crore in Gujarat, where MSIL manufactures Baleno, Swift, and Dzire models at its Hansalpur facility, which recently rolled out its two-millionth vehicle.
