Gujarat-made 9,000 HP electric locomotive undergoing trial in Rajasthan

Jaipur: India’s first high-speed railway test track, located near Sambhar Lake, will host trials of the country’s most powerful 9,000-horsepower electric locomotive starting Thursday. The first phase of testing will be conducted over two days, on August 21 and 22.

Manish Kumar Goyal, General Manager of the Dahod factory in Gujarat, stated that this is the first time a locomotive of such capacity is being tested in India. The engine was dispatched from Dahod on Wednesday to reach the Jaipur test track.

According to zonal railway officials, the unique test track stretches 64 km along the Jaipur-Jodhpur rail corridor, from Gudha near Nawan to Uthana Mithdi. During the first phase of trials, both the locomotive and the track will be evaluated for their strength and performance under high-speed conditions.

Officials further stated that if these trials are successful, the test track could serve as a future hub for high-speed rolling stock testing in India, including bullet trains. DeshGujarat
