ACB Gujarat book lady DySP, head constable in bribery case

Tapi: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today booked two police officials from the SC/ST Cell in Vyara-Tapi district for allegedly demanding a bribe of ₹1.5 lakh. The accused include DySP Nikita Shiroya and Head Constable Narendra Ramanbhai Gamit.

According to ACB officials, a case under the Atrocities Act and the Dowry Prohibition Act had been registered against the complainant, his family members, and two friends, eight individuals in total, at Kakrapar Police Station. The investigation was being handled by DySP Shiroya, with Head Constable Gamit serving as her writer.

The two cops allegedly demanded an initial bribe of ₹4,00,000 for not arresting or harassing the complainant’s relatives and friends in the case, which was later reduced to ₹1,50,000 after negotiation.

Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB, following which a trap was laid today outside the L&T Colony near Kakrapar Police Station. During the operation, Head Constable Gamit reportedly arrived in a private car to collect the bribe money. However, sensing suspicion, he refrained from accepting the cash and fled the spot in his vehicle, thereby committing an offence. DeshGujarat
