Vadodara: In line with the Centre’s push to curb pollution through electric mobility, the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has accelerated efforts to introduce 100 electric buses in the city. Additionally, the civic body is planning to roll out double-decker electric buses on Vadodara highways within the next four months, for which it has sought two buses from GSRTC.
According to officials, the move comes as old and noisy diesel-run government buses continue to cause pollution and lead to excessive fuel consumption. Responding to the Centre’s directive to replace diesel buses with eco-friendly alternatives, the VMC aims to make 100 mini electric buses operational by November 2025. In preparation, the corporation is setting up EV charging stations and parking facilities on a war footing. A major charging hub capable of charging 50 buses simultaneously is coming up in Gotri, while a parking facility is being developed in Sayajiganj. Both projects are nearly 50% complete.
The VMC is also working on plans to introduce two double-decker electric buses in the city and has already placed a request for them with GSRTC. DeshGujarat
