Ahmedabad: The Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation Ltd. (SRFDCL) has decided to redesign its upcoming Riverside Savouries food plaza on the river’s western bank to prevent littering in the Sabarmati River. Initially, the open-air design raised concerns that visitors on the lower promenade might throw waste directly into the river. To address this issue, SRFDCL plans to modify the design to include a dome or covered structure.

As a result, a new Request for Proposal (RFP) will be issued, replacing the original one published on February 7. The project spans 27,000 sq m opposite BJ Park, with the food plaza and related amenities planned over 6,300 sq m. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has allocated Rs 50 crore in its 2025-26 budget for the Riverside Savouries on the western bank.

Under the updated guidelines, fast-food outlets, non-vegetarian restaurants, and chains with more than three locations in Ahmedabad or Gandhinagar will be prohibited. However, bidders may collaborate with national or international brands. DeshGujarat
