Ahmedabad: A 22-year-old man from Ambaliyasan in Mehsana district was arrested at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Tuesday after being deported from Dubai for travelling with a forged Canadian visa.
The airline alerted airport authorities, suspecting the visa was fake, and confirmed to the Bureau of Immigration that his deportation was due to visa forgery. The man was handed over to the police.
According to the FIR, the accused had submitted his original Canadian visa to a local contact, who, along with an agent, arranged for a fake visa sticker to be pasted on his passport. The accused claimed he was unaware of the forgery and had followed all instructions given by his travel agents, including biometric verification at the VFS centre.
Police said the fake sticker was meant to deceive immigration authorities and facilitate illegal entry into Canada. A case has been registered against three people under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Passport Act for forgery, fraudulent document use, and providing false information.
