Congress seeks toll fee exemption for local vehicles at Choryasi Toll Plaza in Kamrej
August 05, 2025
Kamrej: The Congress party on Monday submitted a memorandum to the Kamrej Sub-Divisional Office, demanding toll exemption at the Choriyasi Toll Plaza, a probe into alleged multi-crore toll scams involving NHAI and government authorities, and the completion of pending service road work at the Kamrej crossroads.
In the memorandum, Congress highlighted that local residents who use the national highway for occasional personal travel to nearby villages—for social visits or agricultural activities—are being denied toll exemptions, despite repeated appeals. Earlier, when the FASTag system was not in place, local vehicles were exempt from toll charges. The memorandum also noted that while the NHAI and the government had originally sanctioned toll collection for 14 years, that term has now expired.
Yet, toll collection continues at 100% instead of being reduced to 40%, as per norms, amounting to what Congress called a “massive financial exploitation” of commuters. The memorandum alleges that this is effectively a scam worth crores of rupees, and demands an immediate investigation and strict action against those responsible.
Furthermore, Congress leaders pointed out that service roads and underpasses along the highway are in a state of neglect, with garbage piles left uncleared for long periods. The service road from Dada Bhagwan Mandir to Kholevad Harekrushna Residency via Kamrej crossroads remains incomplete, adding to the inconvenience faced by daily commuters.
The protest and memorandum submission saw the presence of Kamrej Taluka Congress President Bhagwan Bharwad, Sunny Lad, and a large number of party workers. DeshGujarat
