4 more double-decker buses to ply on Ahmedabad roads
August 01, 2025
Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service (AMTS) has decided to expand its fleet by adding four new air-conditioned double-decker buses at an estimated cost of ₹2 crore. The initiative aims to enhance public transport infrastructure and reduce congestion on existing double-decker routes, for which the tender was issued in May this year.
With this addition, AMTS will operate a total of 11 double-decker buses, as currently, seven such buses are operating across the city. AMTS Chairman Dharamshi Desai said the expanded service will now cover three key routes on the SP Ring Road—Sanathal to Vastral, Vastral to Vaishnodevi, and Vaishnodevi to Sanathal—providing better connectivity to fast-growing areas of the city.
It is noteworthy that AMTS currently operates around 950 buses, including 7 electric double-deckers, in Ahmedabad, with services run through private operators. DeshGujarat
