Passenger arriving from Bangkok caught with 8 kg cannabis at Ahmedabad Airport

Ahmedabad: A Customs department team on Monday nabbed a passenger with 8.2 kg of marijuana (also known as cannabis) at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.
On July 28, officers from the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) stopped a male traveller who had arrived in Ahmedabad from Bangkok on a Thai Lion Airways flight. “The passenger was carrying 15 vacuum-sealed plastic packets containing a total of 8,286.20 grams of marijuana,” noted the Customs department in a statement.
The accused has been arrested and presented before the court, and further investigation is underway to trace the source and intended recipients of the seized consignment.
Investigators observed that in recent years, there has been a rise in the smuggling of hydroponic weed, which is considered more potent than locally available varieties. This higher quality allows it to command a premium price on the black market, making it attractive to smugglers. DeshGujarat
