IMD issues orange, yellow alert for heavy rains in these districts of Gujarat till July 29

Ahmedabad: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) today, in its latest forecast, predicted the possibility of widespread heavy rain over the upcoming weekend.

As per the IMD forecast, heavy rain is likely in several districts of Gujarat during the next seven days till July 29th, while the rest of the districts are also expected to receive light to moderate rain.

According to the IMD, heavy rains are likely to affect isolated areas in districts including Udaipur, Surat, Narmada, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad, and in the Union Territories of Daman and Dadra & Nagar Haveli during the next three days till July 25th.

On July 26th, heavy rain is likely to cover more parts of the state, namely Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad, and in Daman and Dadra & Nagar Haveli; as well as districts of Saurashtra-Kutch region, namely Amreli and Bhavnagar.

On July 27th, heavy to very heavy rain is likely to lash Panchmahal, Dahod, and Chhota Udepur, for which an orange alert will be in place in these districts. Meanwhile, a yellow alert for heavy rain will remain in effect in Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Aravalli, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Anand, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Surendranagar, Rajkot, Amreli, Bhavnagar, and Botad.

On July 28th, an orange alert for very heavy rain will be in place in Banaskantha, Mehsana, and Sabarkantha in North Gujarat region, while Patan, Gandhinagar, Aravalli, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Surendranagar, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Morbi, Botad, and Kutch may also get heavy rain.

After that, on July 29th (the last day covered by the forecast), heavy rains are very likely at isolated places in Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Mahisagar, Navsari, Valsad, and in Daman, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, and Kutch; while the rest of the districts may get light rain.

Synoptic Situation:

• The monsoon trough at mean sea level continues to pass through Firozpur, Karnal, Meerut, Varanasi, Jamshedpur, Digha, and then southeastwards to the east-central Bay of Bengal.

• An upper air cyclonic circulation over southwest Rajasthan at 3.1 km above mean sea level persists.

• A trough from the northeast Arabian Sea to the cyclonic circulation over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal across south Gujarat, north Madhya Maharashtra, Vidarbha, Telangana, and coastal Andhra Pradesh at 5.8 km above mean sea level also persists.
