July 15, 2025
Ahmedabad: In a significant development under the India-Japan strategic partnership, the Japanese government has agreed to introduce next-generation E10 Shinkansen trains as part of the 508-km Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor, the Indian Railways announced on Monday.
In an official statement, the Railways said, “Japanese Shinkansen is currently running E5 trains. Next generation trains are E10. In the spirit of strategic partnership between Japan and India, the Japanese government has agreed to introduce E10 Shinkansen trains in the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet train project. It is noteworthy that E10 will be introduced simultaneously in India and Japan”
The entire 508 km corridor is being developed with Japanese Shinkansen technology. It will set new benchmarks for speed, safety, and reliability. This reflects the deep strategic and technological cooperation between India and Japan, the statement added.
Meanwhile, civil works for the project are progressing rapidly across the alignment. A 310-km viaduct has been constructed, 15 river bridges have been completed, and 4 more are in advanced stages of construction. Out of 12 stations, 5 are complete, and 3 more are nearing completion. The station at BKC is described as an engineering marvel — located 32.5 meters below ground, with a foundation designed to support a 95-meter-high structure above ground.
Separately, a major engineering milestone was achieved with the completion of the first section of the 21-km undersea tunnel between Mumbai’s Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) and Thane. Tunneling between Ghansoli and Shilphata in Maharashtra has been successfully concluded. DeshGujarat
