Sant Sarovar dam 100% full; alert issued for villages along Sabarmati riverbank
July 09, 2025
Gandhinagar: Due to heavy and incessant rainfall in the upper reaches, the Sant Sarovar Dam in Gujarat’s capital Gandhinagar has reached 100% capacity. As a result, the dam authorities have begun releasing water into the Sabarmati River.
In an official public notice, it was stated that water from upstream areas has entered the dam, filling it to capacity. Gate No. 11 of the Sant Sarovar Dam has been opened, and the water is now being discharged into the river. Residents living in nearby low-lying areas have been alerted about the water release as a precautionary measure.
Authorities have urged citizens to avoid entering the riverbed or approaching the banks of the Sabarmati River. Villages including Indroda, Dholakuva, Randesan, Raisan, Koba, and Nabhoi—which are located along the river—have been placed on high alert. Locals have been strictly advised not to visit the riverbank to watch the water flow, or engage in bathing or fishing activities. DeshGujarat
