Surat lady arrested for threat to crash Air India Express flight over bag dispute

Surat: An Ayurvedic doctor travelling to Surat was arrested on Tuesday in Bengaluru after she caused a major disruption on board an Air India Express flight (IX2749). The Bengaluru–Surat flight was delayed by two hours after she allegedly threatened to crash the aircraft during an argument with the cabin crew over her baggage.

The 36-year-old woman, Dr. Hiral Mohanbhai Vyas, boarded the flight with two bags, bypassing the check-in process. After boarding, she left one bag near the restricted crew cabin area and took the other to her seat (20F). When the crew asked her to move the bag to the overhead bin near her seat, she refused and insisted the crew handle it.

Despite repeated requests from the crew and the captain, she became verbally abusive and uncooperative. When other passengers tried to intervene, she reportedly pushed them and said, “If anyone touches my bag, I’ll crash the flight.”

The situation prompted the captain to alert CISF personnel, who boarded the aircraft and forcibly deboarded the passenger. The incident occurred between 2:45 pm and 5:30 pm, according to the security complaint filed at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA).

Even after being taken to the police station, Hiral reportedly continued to behave aggressively, using abusive language and assaulting police officers. Meanwhile, her husband, who works in education and is originally from Odisha, told police that she had stopped practising medicine and was traveling to Gujarat to meet family. He also confirmed she had displayed similar disruptive behavior in public before. Police have begun investigating her past incidents and background. DeshGujarat
