VNSGU to offer industry-aligned training through new skill centre
June 17, 2025
Surat: Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU) will soon establish the Shri Vishwakarma Kendra for Industry and Lifelong Learning Skills (VNSGU SKILLS) on its campus. A provision of ₹10 lakh has been made in the university budget for setting up the centre.
The centre aims to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry needs at the higher education level, enhancing students’ employability and adaptability in the evolving job market. The proposal was approved during the Board of Management meeting held on Saturday. A seven-member committee has been formed to assess the needs for the centre. The committee will conduct an industry analysis, gather student feedback, and survey sectors with future employment potential. It will also be responsible for designing the curriculum for the centre.
The Skill Centre will develop short-term courses, workshops, certificate courses, and diploma programs based on the requirements of various industries in Surat and surrounding areas. Students will also receive real-time, hands-on training through industry collaborations. Post-course internship opportunities, apprenticeships, and job placement support will be provided.
Key activities of the centre:
-
Technical Skill Training: Courses will include IT and computer skills (such as web development and data analysis), engineering and manufacturing skills (including robotics and automation), and renewable energy and environmental management skills.
-
Soft Skill Training: Training will focus on communication and presentation skills, teamwork, leadership, professional ethics, problem-solving, and critical thinking.
-
Industry-Specific Training: Programs will cover retail (customer service and sales), finance and accounting, media and entertainment, and human resource management.
