Rickshaw Driver Booked for Kidnapping, Rape, Attempting Conversion of Hindu Female in Vadodara
May 21, 2025
Vadodara: A harrowing tale of love jihad and the torture of a young Hindu woman has emerged in Vadodara. A woman has filed a complaint against auto-rickshaw driver Sohail Nazim Khan, alleging that he abducted, tortured, and pressured her to convert to Islam under the guise of love.
According to the complaint filed at Kapurai police station, the victim, who was 17 years and 9 months old in August 2023, was waiting for an auto-rickshaw near Ajwa Road, Kamala Nagar. She boarded a rickshaw driven by Sohail Nazim Khan Pathan. The two subsequently exchanged numbers and communicated via WhatsApp, with Sohail reportedly promising marriage to the minor. When the girl approached her family about the proposal, they advised against it due to her minor status.
Later, on October 17, 2023, Sohail allegedly eloped with the girl. He took her to a house in Unardeep Nagar Society, behind Sayajipura Ananta Samriddhi Society, where he allegedly raped her. The complaint further alleges that Sohail repeatedly prevented her from leaving the house, subjecting her to continuous pressure to convert to Islam and threatening her life.
On May 17, 2025, the woman returned to her own home. However, Sohail’s friends, Faim Afimwala and Junaid, came to her house and allegedly threatened her, stating they would kill her if she did not go to Sohail’s house. The woman succumbed to the threat and went to Sohail’s house. There, she alleges Sohail inflicted further torture, including putting out cigarette butts on her wrists and assaulting her with a stick.
On May 18, 2025, while Sohail was reportedly out for work, the victim seized an opportunity to escape again. She managed to flee the house and return to her own home, after which she subsequently lodged a detailed complaint with the Kapurai police.
Based on the victim’s complaint, Kapurai police have registered a case against Sohail Nazim Khan Pathan and his two friends, Faim Afimwala and Junaid, under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges related to kidnapping, rape, wrongful confinement, and voluntarily causing hurt. Investigations are underway, and police are making efforts to apprehend the accused. DeshGujarat
